Our 63rd Annual Meeting & Luncheon—our first live meeting and hug-fest since 2019—was most enjoyable and attended by 50 members and guests. Luncheon was served under a tent on the lawn of the Seattle Yacht Club. The Award of Distinction for 2021 was presented to Sally Buckingham, whose long and fabulous tenure with the SOG richly deserved the award, but she was truly surprised. Our lively Cinderella previews featured professional performers Li-Cheng Hung, Korland Simmons and Lucy Weber. We were well informed and eager to enjoy Seattle Opera’s unique production of this opera! Our Magnolia/Queen Anne preview group sponsored a delightful garden fundraiser, “Summer in Seattle.” The outstanding performers were Shelly Traverse, Erich Parce and Lisa Bergman. Our Allegro preview group sponsored a unique fundraiser, “Singing and Springing,” to benefit young singers! Our outstanding performers were Nerys Jones (mezzo-soprano) and Tim Barrick (pianist). “Much Ado About Music” (May 20, 2018): SOG training awardees Ibidunni Ojikutu, Ksenia Popova and Rachelle Moss celebrated the Bard with arias from operas based on his plays. They were joined by Charles Robert Stephens and Glenda Williams in the fundraising recital. Our Carmen preview audiences enjoyed Elizabeth Galafa (Carmen), James Walters (Don Jose) and Li-Tan Hsu (pianist). Priscilla Pizzichemi, Li-Tan Hsu and Jonathan Suek gave outstanding performances in our previews of The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs! An exciting SOG preview of Beatrice and Benedict by Nerys Jones, Brendan Tuohy and Li-Tan Hsu. “Summertime” (June 23, 2018): SOG training grant recipients Ibidunni Ojikutu and Cheryse McLeod Lewis performed selections from Porgy and Bess with Dierre Lopez and Li-Tan Hsu in a fundraiser for SOG Singers’ Development Awards. Ibidunni, Cheryse and Dierre will perform mainstage roles in Seattle Opera’s Porgy and Bess in August, 2018. Corinna Quilliam, Erin Murphy and Li-Tan Hsu in our memorable preview of Aida.
