Music of Remembrance
May 19 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Music of Remembrance (MOR) is presenting an exciting opera world premiere at Benaroya Hall on May 19. “Before It All Goes Dark” was created by Jake Heggie. One of Heggie’s operas recently premiered at the Met in NYC, and he has another premiere at the Met next season. He has teamed up with librettist Gene Scheer for his fifth commission for MOR.
The plot of this opera is based on a true story. Mac McDonald, a deeply troubled Vietnam War veteran, grew up poor in the Chicago suburbs; his Jewish ancestry was hidden from him until Chicago Tribune reporter Howard Reich tracked him down as part of an investigation. When Mac learned he was heir to a priceless art collection stolen by the Nazis, the two men journeyed to Eastern Europe to uncover secrets of the war.
At the concert, Heggie, Scheer, Reich, and Mina Miller (MOR’s Founder) will discuss the genesis of the opera and their creative process. Tickets can be purchased by going to Music of Remembrance Seattle.
